Motion sculptures for CCTV Documentary Channel is a digital metaphor of phenomenal blinks and moments that life consists of. In four Idents we follow a visual performance of organic and vital substance, animated using data of actors movements.
Idents visualize four different themes. To emphasize the emotion of each Ident, we have decided to use different textures of steel, wood and glass. Motion sculpture of steel reflects old Chinese adage that true power is mastering yourself. Youthful energy of dancers evolve into beautiful organic sculpture. Colorful happiness is the engine of father's and his daughter's joy. Two lovers visualize fragility and vitality of love in the last Ident.

Using the latest release of diva-for-grasshopper component with the diva-for-rhino environmental analysis tool available at diva-for-rhino.com. Parametric form is a closed triangular panelized shape with 13 vertices constrained in movement along vectors determined by the corners and centroids of a cube. The genetic algorithm component galapagos- part of the grasshopper program by David Rutten- was used. The "genes" were the location of the 13 vertices and the rotation of the form. The "fitness" function is described by the maximal surface irradiation per unit volume. This was calculated using the GenCumumlativeSky program which is part of Radiance and accessible through DIVA. A Boston weather file was used.
