Jesus was asked about which commandment is the greatest. His response was to share the TWO greatest commandments: Love God. Love people. Jesus then revealed that all the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments. WOW. Jesus is teaching that love is the underpinning of all truth.
If love gives appropriate footing to all truth, it behooves us to understand the truth about love. In other words, what is real, Biblical love? If we are to walk in God’s truth, especially in this day and hour, we must walk in REAL love.
Today I pray you and I come into a face-to-face encounter with the genuine Love of God and purposefully reject any substitutes.
John 17:26“...and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” NIV
Jesus prayed that you and I would be filled with the same love that God the Father has for Jesus the Son. This prayer represents God’s desire to fill us with a type and quality of love that is Divine, miraculous and not of our own making. You and I can receive this gift, and in so doing, live as an answer to the prayers of Jesus Christ Himself.
When you and I “turn the other cheek,” we are living as an answer to Jesus’ prayer. When we “bless those who curse us” we are living as an answer to Jesus’ prayer. Our lives can fulfill Jesus Christ’s deepest desires as expressed in Scripture as we show God’s love to people. Today I pray you and I will be challenged to no longer settle for unforgiveness, bitterness, fear, or anxiety. Instead we will embrace every opportunity to be the answers to the very prayers of Christ.
