1. Iemanjá is the mother goddess, whose name means "Mother whose children are like fish" is also the mother of all the Orishas.
African slaves, to be forced to convert to Catholicism, followed the practice of syncretism and Iemanjá syncretised to the Virgin Mary under her title of Stella Maris, the patron saint of sailors, sailors and fishermen (this syncretism was in Brazil because in Cuba syncretism with other carriers), so the Europeans believed that African slaves had become, but were unaware that their slaves continued to worship Iemanjá, orixá that rules over the seas and all that is in them , protector of home and family, boats and fishermen and owner of the seafood.
On February 2 the celebration takes place in all the American South Atlantic. On that day, people from cults such as the Africanism, Candomble and Umbanda (including Quimbanda) are taking boats out to sea with offerings, also called "Ferramentas".
