“Why is it when you reach adulthood we can start a process of exchanging the thrill of discovery for the comfort of predictability? I think the less we challenge ourselves, the less we grow. So… when was the last time you tried something new? If you’ve always wanted to dance, do it now, no matter what age, level of fitness, or ability. Surprise yourself and enjoy the challenge.”
John Darvell, Artistic Director, NOCTURN
NOCTURN’s adult community dance programme aims to give people of any ability a chance to participate in contemporary dance, whether for fun, fitness or performance opportunities.
We offer a range of classes for beginners, improvers and a choreographic performance group, which professional dance artists teach.
This piece was created for and by our adult recreational dancers performance group ILLUME, showcased at 'Lift Off' dance platform at South Hill Park in 2013.
This group is a unique opportunity to create and rehearse choreographic works with public performances throughout the year. The group meet up once a week at South Hill Park, for people aged 18+, on Thursday evenings from 8.30 – 9.30pm.
‘Hidden in plain sight’ - performed at Lift Off dance platform, SHP and ‘Oxford Lights’, Oxford 2012
Inspired by the work of Antony Gormely, the piece explores how we can hide meaning in our movement while still having it clearly visible.
