1. Neurotoxins (or nerve poisons) can be created by gut dysbiosis inside the body, and can be absorbed through the skin, the airways, and through food, beverages, and medicines. These nerve poisons disrupt an autistic body's ability to self-regulate, to keep itself in balance. Because tics, spasms, and especially seizures have the potential to escalate, and because the damage they can cause is so much harder to heal, this is the only group of symptoms where I recommend getting good detoxification support before you stop the lifestyle from causing intoxification.

  2. Autistics have all of their senses turned up to high volume. Things which you might notice as being a little unpleasant can be terribly distracting and upsetting to us. Tantrums are different from meltdowns in that there is usually anger underneath them, and the person having the tantrum will be watching to see whether the actions are having the intended effect. Meltdowns come from a place of hopelessness, helplessness, utter overwhelm, and a desperate survival need to get the pain and stress levels down. Someone in overwhelm will only meet your eyes by accident, and definitely won't be seeing you.

  3. Research to date shows that throughout the autistic spectrum (ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourette's, OCD, etc.), all individuals are at least to some degree malnourished because of gut dysbiosis. "Dys" means wrong, and "bio" means life. When you have a crippled ecosystem in your gut, often some opportunistic species like fungi, yeasts, harmful bacteria, and sometimes parasites will have moved in. These create stinky waste products and lots of digestive upset, which often mean that the sweat, breath, and feet smell a lot, too.

  4. Compare the human brain to a computer. In the general population, people can remember many steps to a procedure, put them in the right order, change them on the fly, and even respond to other things without losing track of where they were. This is similar to a computer with a lot of RAM, which is able to have lots of windows and different programs open at the same time. In the autistic population, people can often remember only one step, or one item at a time, but once something goes into long term memory (gets programmed in), it becomes automatic and doesn't require any energy to pay attention to. This is like the large old mainframe computers which schedule traffic lights. Try to do too many things at once, and the system crashes. But put something on automatic, so it's done the same way every time? No problem.

  5. Beyond the fact that unresolved trauma leaves all of your senses straining for danger, autistics have an additional complication. Our detoxification systems are impaired, which means that we have a lot more toxic body burden than found in the general population. And just like alcohol, other toxins are "intoxicating" (sensory distortion, balance and coordination issues, etc.), plus they leave the nervous system raw afterwards during the hangover (nausea, lights too bright, noises too loud, etc.). When you add constant intoxication to a constant hangover, your nervous system notices every little thing, often with pain.
