Ladybugs are a natural pesticide. They feed on aphids and other garden pests. During spring 2012, the Sunnylands staff released approximately one million ladybugs into the gardens. In May, the public was invited to assist in releasing 200,000 of the insects.
The Family Day program on the third Sunday of January coincided with the opening of a new exhibition of Chinese cloisonne at Sunnylands Center & Gardens. Lion dances, calligraphy and other Chinese arts were demonstrated and taught.
Choosing gowns by Oscar de la Renta and Pierre Balmain and suits worn by Walter Annenberg, six designers, who included two Project Runway contestants, showed how they were inspired with newly designed gowns, capes, suits, and dresses that reflected the color, style, and elegance seen in the fashions culled from the Sunnylands collection.
