After hiking 13km up HuangShan on the first day, we got up at 4am (after only 5hrs of sleep) to go see the sunrise over the mountain. At first it was a tease - the sky got brighter but we did not see the disk of the sun. When it finally began emerging from the grayness of the horizon, a large cloudmist swooped in to block its ascent from view. (the crowd was certainly displeased!) But at long last the mist dissipated, and the glow of morning illuminated the rolling waves of the cloudsea beneath.
We were at 猴子视海 vista (hou zi guan hai) (monkey gazing at the cloudsea)

On a stormy, moody dawn in early October we pulled into the quiet village of Catherine Hill Bay on the east coast of Australia and were struck by the anchored presence of the historic Catherine Hill Bay Jetty.
The dominating yet decaying spine walks its way out into the bay almost like a reptile emerging from the sea chiselled rocky headland.
Sheltering from the rain, it offered a magical atmosphere as we explored its aging hulk and wandered through the jetty's many legs.
A great location for film or photography, Catherine Hill Bay is a 2 hour drive from Sydney and well worth the trip. We'll be back there again soon.

"Alone" is a short film inspired by a poem from Edgar Allan Poe. This was done in partnership with John Mcpherson from JM Imagery, and fulfilled a collegiate requirement for a class.
The story itself is an interpretation of the poem, Alone. We sought to have the audience follow the pain of her past shown through the death of her mother, and then to find hope in her future. One of it's purposes is to effectively communicate God's love and care for all people.
Music: "All Alright" -Sigur Ros
Filmed on a Nikon D3s. Underwater footage taken with a GoPro camera.
Ran through Compressor into ProRes 422 format.
Edited on Final Cut Pro.

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.
—Edgar Allan Poe
We made a few changes to the poem itself, including changing the ending.
