The new BMW X5 commercial "Stillstand" shows the latest model in a host of stunning locations around the world. The X5 has reached the ends of the earth and is merely parked up gently watching the world go by. In contradiction to the typical 4x4 tv ad with car grunting through rough roads conquering landscape, the landscape moves around the car in sometimes surreal serenity.
It is hard to see what post production has gone into this commercial. Nothing looks like it couldn’t have been achieved in camera apart from maybe the freeway scene where there’s a timelapse which could have had some assistance in post. So what could Finish have spent 5 weeks doing on this commercial? Was it just some cleaning up of landscapes and beautifying of the car? In fact this commercial is an example of the kind of seamless special effects that all too often go un noticed and therefore not ever awarded! So we challenge you....can you pick which cars are real and which are CG?
This documentary was produced by Ya'axché Conservation Trust and Ajax Films in the Toledo District of southern Belize to highlight the connections between freshwater and marine ecosystems. It was the result of a collaboration between a variety of NGO's and dynamic individuals, particularly LightHawk who provided flights over the watersheds and coastal reefs, Toledo Institute for Development and the Environment (TIDE) for their expertise in watershed management, Rachael Carrie for her innovative work on community based freshwater monitoring, Mauricio Mejia at WWF for his work with commercial plantations and Zenovia and Ignacio Ash for their important work building awareness of the importance of healthy rivers in their community.
One of the key messages of this film is that what happens upstream affects what happens downstream and it is for this reason that we must learn to take care of our rivers for ourselves and for future generations.
This film provides a chance to see how a small number of individuals living along Toledo's rivers are trying to make a big difference within their communities providing not just local benefits but benefits for all Belizean's.
You can see interviews with representatives from inland Mayan communities, coastal creole communities and a variety of conservation organizations who are working together to build awareness of the importance of watershed health.
This film is being shown throughout Belize on local and national television and particularly to communities and schools in the Toledo district who have no access to electricity or television.
