  2. On December 9th 2013, 28 entrepreneurs and FoodLab allies from across the state of Michigan joined together for a day of touring and conversation, focused on creativity, collaboration, and growth among food businesses in Detroit.

FoodLab partnered with our allies, Fair Food Network and Detroit Kitchen Connect to host entrepreneurs in a spirited exchange. The group engaged with food systems entrepreneurs and business owners like Dan Carmody and Devita Davison of Eastern Market, Monique Sasser of Nikki's Ginger Tea,
Tawnya Clark of the Batata Shop, Will Branch at Corridor Sausage, and others before heading to Trinosophes for
our monthly Food for Thought meeting.

Here are some words from participants. Many thanks to all who participated and made this a success.

"Our experience on Monday was very impactful on multiple levels.[...] I left that night with a feeling that I belong to a community, a very vibrant, healthy community of individuals committed to the local food economy, to each other, and to the well-being of our planet; and that I'm not alone. That's pretty awesome." -- Crystal Lecoy, Grand Rapids

"Thank you so much for including me in the Exchange on Monday. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The day was so full that I'm still absorbing it! [...] All of the stops were interesting and well worth visiting. For me the most important benefit was being in the presence of so many dedicated individuals with similar goals.I really appreciate how open and welcoming people in the Detroit food scene are. I love to share what I know & help others along, and I feel that spirit coming from entrepreneurs throughout the city." -- Margaret Schankler, Ann Arbor

Check out photos of our day here. A special thanks to FoodLab member, Prema Qadir, who made this spectacular video recap.

    See you at FoodLab Detroit!

    Jess Daniel, Executive Director.

Jess is an enabler and organizer of good food businesses. She believes that when entrepreneurs join forces, they can make a significant contribution to building more resilient, just, and joyful communities. What began in 2010 as a tiny pop-up restaurant project called Neighborhood Noodle, eventually connected her to a vibrant, inspiring community of food entrepreneurs and activists that inspired the formation of FoodLab.

When not hanging out with the FoodLab crew, she can be found at the Center for Regional Food Systems at MSU where she moonlights as a PhD student, doing action research on network-based organizations and the role of entrepreneurship in social movements.
