A man standing alone in a shed hitting a bath with a mallet could be seen as mad, but in the world of sound design, it's the norm. Ali Lacey is an eccentric sound design artist, and this short portrait allows us a closer look into the world of sound design.
The Lanzarote Effect
by Lea Amiel and Nicolas Libersalle.
With 6 other filmmakers from all around the world, we were chosen to make shorts films about the canary islands : 7 filmmakers, 7 islands, 7 stories. The Island which was assigned to us is Lanzarote: a small volcanic island. So we went there for a week and tried to show the beauty of this special island…here is the result. Hope you'll enjoy it! Thanks for watching ;)
We'd like to thank especially Patricia Betancort & Jose Riverol, our incredible hosts during this week in Lanzarote, all the team of 28 y medio for this great adventure and also all our fellow filmakers who are incredibly talented ;)
We shot this video with a Canon 5D mark III and Magic Lantern, in RAW mode.
Sound design is only made in postproduction, RAW doesn't allow you to record sound.

The purpose of my master thesis is to create a new way of experiencing remarkable architecture. Inspired by the work of Santiago Calatrava in Belgium, I developed the idea for the film »Liège-Guillemins«. The principal components I tried to show with my project are the interaction between architecture and humans as well as time and light. Every frame has been taken carefully by a digital SLR camera. In post production thousands of images have been stabilized, edited and tied together to a moving image.
