1. Test with Houdini's new "Voronoi Fracture" tool.

  2. Wave vs Rocks.

    The Houdini part:
Setup: 6 hrs? Most of this time went into getting the whitecaps "right". (Gotta lot to learn.)
Simulation and baking time: something between 4--8 hrs.
Time to render with Mantra: 38 hrs for all three cams.
    Cam1: 16 hrs. (288 frames)
Cam2: 12 hrs (72 frames; lots of particle sprites).
Cam3: 10 hrs (84 frames; little less sprites).
The least I could get, without losing too much quality.

Blender's sequencer was then used to create the movie file from EXRs coming out of Houdini, as well as Gimp for the titles.

Note: not every rendered frame was used for the final shot.

  3. Trying to get the hang on using Houdini's particle fluid.

very basic: the standard "sculpted fluid" setup (terrain and fluid: grid, obstacles: fractal modified spheres) with one additional fluid emitter and a sink on eiter side of the terrain object.

baking took about 3hrs, I guess with a particle separation of 0.2,
rendered out in 2hrs. (no GI/AO and very basic shaders, for speed's sake),
    sequenced with Blender ;)

  4. Trying out Houdini 10's new PyroFX shelf tools.

This is a first approach towards creating an explosion.
the explosion itself is made with the "Fireball", while the secondary shockwave smok was realized with a particle system, metaballs, isooffset, etc.

  5. Trying out Houdini 10's new PyroFX shelf tools.

Second version! This time, not only the primary explosion uses the new Pyro Solver (Fireball), but also the secondary shockwave smoke (Billowy Smoke).

Looks better, but is more CPU expensive than the good old particle approach.

... and yeah, I shouldn't have made the cam movement, Now it looks like the smoke is swirling around -.-
