  3. 2012 Sci Fi London 48hr film challenge.

Written, shot, edited, sound-designed and composed-for in 48 hours.

Pretty much everything in this film was achieved for free due to a bunch of awesome people who were willing to work on it for no fee, and others helping us out with kit at no cost. We only decided to enter the competition on the Wednesday before it started, so finding crew was a mad rush though we ended up with a brilliant team.

It was shot on a Red MX which was kindly supplied for free by a friend. The Red helped us to up the production value but caused us some major post issues - I think next time I will stick to shooting this kind of thing on my 7D. My old PC desktop took a right pounding over the 2 days. The editor has not been converted to PC that's for sure.

Most props were also begged, stolen and borrowed except for a very few, mainly some clear tubing and plastic dust-sheets that I hung up on the walls around the room. It was all shot in our flat which was turned upside down for a couple of days but did the trick nicely.

We had no sound recordist so all sound was done in post, with ADR and foley.

This was very much a small, low-budget shoot with a very small crew of 8, and a chinese take-away to take us through the night. Everyone seemed to have fun and I met some great people that I hope to work with again.

    CAST:
    Harris: Douglas Rankine
    Amy: Aimie Long
    Soldier 1: Investigator: Russell Barnett
    Soldier 2: Adrian Bouchet

    CREW:

Jamie Childs: director, art designer, sound designer, camera op, producer, writer
    Amelia Spencer: writer, producer
    Barney Davis: DOP
    George telling: camera assistant, gaffer
Lisa Zipper: make up and FX
    Toby Caldecott: art assistant
    Thomas Howard: composer
    Erline O'Donovan: editor, colourist

Special thanks to Belinda Norcliffe for helping us find Douglas as our main man, Chris Williams for finding me an art assistant, and Tom Ward at Sandstorm for giving us a camera.

  4. Shot this to test out the BMPCC and Lumix 25mm 1.4 lens. 100% Natural light. First time grading in Resolve.
Edited in Premiere Pro CC. I don't have a plus account so Vimeo dropped it to 720p

  5. Trailer created by Rebel35 for Original Theatre Company's stage adaptation of Sebastian Faulks's Birdsong.

Shot on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera EF 2.5K with a Sigma 18-35mm lens on a budget of about £600 and graded in a pub an hour after the shoot (craaaaaazy fast turnaround) :P

A version of the score with "more nuts" can be found here for anyone interested:
