The Hidden Room's "The Taming of the Shrew - Original Practices" attempts to recreate as closely as possible the playing conditions from the period in which it was written. Live musicians play period appropriate instruments, costumes were created with attention to period detail, and the all-male cast engaged in direct address to the audience, and used a muscular bawdy style.
This award-winning and highly acclaimed production is currently preparing a tour. The full version of the play will be available shortly. More information on the Hidden Room and the mysteries therein can be found at hiddenroomtheatre.com.

Look for a mysterious figure outside the front door. The password is "Horatio."
On Sunday, June 30, 2013, a huge number of lovely people turned up at the York Rite Theater to show support for Robert Matney, one of the crown jewels of the Austin community. $15,000 was raised in one night to go towards his growing medical bills as he battles Stage 3 melanoma.
This is the first half of the evening featuring speeches by Beth Burns, Barbara Chisholm, and Emily Ramshaw Hartstein. But the biggest part of it is the first half of the staged reading of Hidden Room's grandly successful staging of Shakespeare's THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, featuring most of the original cast plus a few new faces. It doesn't get much better than this. At least until Rob is in the clear once again.
There will be a tent revival benefit at The Off Center (2211 Hidalgo, Austin, TX 78702) on Wednesday, July 17th. We hope to see you there!
