The great supercontinent PANGAEA was created during the Paleozoic and early Mezozoic eras. The immense power and energy of two tectonic plates pushing against each other 390-490 million years ago resulted in the formation of The Caledonian Mountain Range. Part of this impressive chain of mountains runs through what is now Northern Ireland. Those mountains are known as The Sperrins.
