Kilian Jornet is an exceptional sportsman. At only 25, the ski mountaineering racer and ultra trail runner is already a multiple record holder and winner of numerous world titles in ski alpinism and mountain marathons. For him and others born in the mountains, the challenges and dangers of their environment are part of everyday life. The search for happiness can come at a very high price, but the pursuit of their passion remains an overwhelming motivation.

“We can’t be sure we’ll find it, but we’re going in search of happiness.”

    “We are all marathoners…” - Joan Benoit-Samuelson

As she bolts into her fifth decade of running, the greatest marathoner of all time refers to her passion for giving back to the sport she loves, and encouraging us all to generate the commitment to make our planet and ourselves a better place.

Keeping up with Joanie 26.2 years after she won the first ever women’s Olympic Marathon Gold Medal was the plan. But a one-year tour of 4 major marathons, an astounding 2:47:50 in Chicago and a good-will schedule that spans the world convinced the filmmakers, that for Joanie, there really is no finish line!

Her story is a stirring message of human potential, beating long odds and sustaining healthy philosophies for the planet and the most important race of all, the human “race”. At 53, her drive and passion continues to keep pace despite her age. But these days her biggest competitor is time, not the stopwatch, that of an aging athlete balancing her life as a mother, community leader and environmentalist.

“I have been blessed to see some of the greatest athletic achievements, Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong… but to this day I still get chills when I think of Joan’s Olympic marathon victory”
    - Phil Knight, Nike

Inset within the film are the historic moments of her improbable 1984 Olympic Gold Medal, her world record performances in Boston and Chicago; of the times before Title IX; and her role in changing the perception of female running potential- breaking barriers and inspiring women thereafter.

But the heart of the film follows Joanie as she trains on the trails in her home state of Maine, and follows her to inspiring efforts at the Chicago marathon where she wills herself to a potential Olympic qualifying time at 53 years old!

In the end there is no end… proving whenever and however her competitive career runs its course- Joan will be an inspirational beacon to follow.
