Cybersmart Chatterbox for Parents is a conversational how-to-guide exploring the digital lives our kids lead – when to worry and when to celebrate the benefits the online world brings. Each conversation addresses the specific issues, behaviours and safety essentials to help you make sense of what’s happening behind the screens.
We all enjoy sharing images and information on-line, for all sorts of reasons.
This week we ask:
How do we help our children navigate the implications that a voyeuristic culture can present?

Thanks. Liked the whole conversation. Really interesting information. I found the video entertaining and will show my kids. The billboard question certainly makes you think! Really good.
Hi Antonia, sounds like you have a six year old with very sound judgement : )
Sadly the ‘belfie’ phenomenon can lead to a whole myriad of issues for young people (and adults) around digital reputation, as anything posted online can be permanent, long-lasting and very difficult to remove! We encourage all parents to talk to their children about the consequences of a negative digital reputation and how best to manage their online image and the messages they are sharing with the world.
I had never heard of the term belfie until last Saturday when a radio station was encouraging listeners to enter their belfie competition. I asked my youngest daughter would she do that? she said with attitude " no way mummy ... why would I do THAT ! " . She is only six ... :-) As a parent I was pleased with that comment and her judgement at this young age.
