1. This is probably the most unseen high budget video i have shot. The content and the fact that it was meant to airplay around chrismas didn't help.
The black Crowes asked me to create a music video for this dark beautiful song, and i asked Sofia Coppola to star in it. At that time she just had played in her dad's film, Godfather 3, and the journalists were hard on her. To the contrary, i thought that she was the best thing in that movie and i was very happy that she accepted to play in the video.
We shot in the 42 nd street area, before it was transformed by the Disney project. Although half of the sex shops had been already closed, the place was still full of it's intense atmosphere.
I think we shot there for 3 days.
Harry Savides was the DP, and most of the cast were my friends, as usual, like in most of my videos.
The hotel were we shot is now a lovely little hotel in the art district area, but at that time it was an absolutely filthy place, the last place you can afford before becoming homeless. I think the name was, the last chance, or the last hotel, something like that.
One absurd moment we had was when we were shooting the last scene, just when Sofia is falling apart overdosing on the street pavement. A limo stops right next to us, a man comes out, and walks toward us, it is Francis F Coppola, obviously really not happy to find his daughter in such an inappropriate situation. He looks at us without a word and his silent disaproval is falling on us stronger than any words.
Few years later i bumped into him in an airport and I reminded him of that funny situation ... the man remained silent.
