1. Conscious Cycle was created in 2007 by Sinton Vignos and Lou Auguste. Together they wanted to create a place where they could bring their artist and musician friends together with the purpose of building a community and raising environmental awareness. This first cycle took place in a rented space at Stay Gold Art Gallery which was located at 451 Grand, therefore we called it Conscious Cycle 451.

A little over a year later we were asked by the Figment festival to recreate our project outside on Governor's Island. This would be the first time we moved the project out of the gallery setting into the great outdoors.

To create our canvas we collected wood from garbage piles on the streets of Brooklyn. Our desire to create a light canvas led us to use the bottoms of dresser drawers as the surface while the frame itself was made from discarded pieces of plywood and the rest of the dresser itself.

We called up everyone we knew and invited them out to Governor's Island for the weekend and we had a terrific response. This time-lapse shows the process that is Conscious Cycle over 3 days.

At various times it rained during the weekend, but people continued to paint even as the rain washed the paint off the wall. We had so much fun, thank you to everyone who came out to paint, spin, dance, or just hang out. We look forward to the next festival and thank you to Figment.

  3. In February of 2007, Lou Auguste and Sinton Vignos rented out space in what used to be Stay Gold Gallery at 451 Grand in Brooklyn. The idea was to spread the idea of environmental consciousness through art. Together they went through local dumpsters and found wood and old paint cans.

Next we invited all the artists we knew in the New York area for a month long paint party and filmed the whole thing. Participating artists included: Gore B, Celso, Matt Siren, Infinity, Elbow Toe, Faro, Naks, Anthrax, Knox, Wrona, SuperK8, Royce, Anera, Sife and Ed, Flower Face Killah, Ninja Girl and Fly.

The project has been recreated outdoors in 2008 at the Figment Festival on Governor's Island in the New York City harbor, and will be once again recreated in 2009 on Governor's Island from June 12-14th and in Graz, Austria during the Four Elements Festival from July 1st-6th.

As part of the two year anniversary we are posting this video to the internet for the first time.
