Scunthorpe Schools U13 girls Football Champions South Axholme Academy represented Scunthorpe United in the area finals at Oakwell Stadium, home of Barnsley FC. The girls got off to a tough start against a strong Middlesborough FC team. South Axholme lost 3-0 however performed much better in the second game with a goalless draw with Oldham Athletic. With more matches the girls grew in confidence with an impressive 3-1 against Bury. Goals were scored by Megan lock and Maisie Simpson. The girls needed to win in their last group game against Rochdale to have any chance of progressing to the semi finals. The girls got off to a great start with two early goals scored by Maisie Simpson. Rochdale scored to make a nervous last few minutes but South Axholme Academy’s defending was too strong. South Axholme played Huddersfield town in the semi final in a close game with good chances falling to both sides. South Axholme unfortunately was not able to take their chances and eventually lost 2-0. The girls deserve great credit for their performances and achievements reaching the area semi finals.
