The Krewella Volcano
V Squared Labs in collaboration with Stefano Novelli has created "The Volcano", a custom crystalline stage production for Krewella's upcoming "GET WET LIVE" tour. From pencil sketches and creative reference to architectural reality, bringing this project to life was an exciting and invigorating process.
"The Volcano" is a 30ft x 18ft superstructure incorporating reflection-mapped faceted crystals. The crystals are built out of a combination of one-way and two-way mirrored acrylic and were specifically designed to create contained infinite reflections. Each crystal is equipped with LED video access and/or interior LED tape, creating complex volumetric reflection effects which visually morph the structure from within.
A central arc of faceted crystal clusters make up the base of the structure, grounding it to the stage like the base of a rocky volcano. LED panels peek out of this area like lava from within. At the apex of the structure are the performers, central to the entire design. Behind them an LED screen displays visuals and custom content while the corner crystalline pieces flanking them act as explosive fragments from the mountainous volcano of crystals below. Stage lighting is dispersed throughout to reinforce the form and composition, completing the dynamic design.
The entire stage is modular, designed to accommodate different configurations depending on venue size and capabilities.

An architectural installation in Paris / FR / 2010.
For the Nuit Blanche 2010 festival, 1024 Architecture designed a 20 tons scaffolding structure built on top of the Saint Louis Bridge, downtown Paris.

This project sets out to generate and evolve different structural topologies within an environment in which physical laws are simulated, allowing for structural performance to be measured.
Two distinct sets of structures have been studied:
- Predefined topologies: Structures defined by pre-set topologies, using the physical simulation engine to reach the equilibrium state defining the final form of the structure.
- Evolutionary Topologies: A genetic algorithm defines the parameters of a constrained spring system that generates populations of structures evolving towards an optimised solution.
The implemented architecture of nodes and links with embedded metadata containing the physical properties of the elements permitted the measurement of the total weight of the structures, maximum deflections, horizontal displacements and number of elements. These data were later used to determine the fitness of the individuals in the population.

JL DESIGN has created a series of idents for HBO ASIA. The concept was to showcase the HBO logo like an installation art. The glass structure seen from different angles reveal the beauty of the glass tubes and the free flowing substances within; the fluid symbolizes the variety of content that is the essence of HBO.
