As a case study, “collaborative consumption” initiatives within the fashion industry such as, swapping, leasing, clothing libraries etc. will be put under the microscope. The students will then analyse the need for change in the conventional fast fashion business model: clothes should last longer, the garments should be flexible and fit as many as possible.

In this webinar students will be introduced to the global fashion industry’s issues around pre and post consumer textile waste, before hearing about creative opportunities and trends around ‘designing with’ waste. Anne Prahl, who is a researcher, trend forecaster and designer specialising in the exploration of sustainable innovation, will further discuss the short, medium and long-term solutions for ‘designing out’ waste, which will be illustrated through inspiring case studies, before inviting the students to debate how they can incorporate and develop such approaches as part of their own future projects.
