1. You remember their 1984 famine, parched land, and distended bellies. But have you seen the fields of waving teff, the tropical forests, or the joy of heaven in the eyes of the children?

This is a collection of video clips I shot during four separate photo assignments all across Ethiopia during the month of May, 2010.

From mini-bus to bajoj and rocky northern deserts to tropical southern mountains... come see Ethiopia the Beautiful.

  2. A village in need of change, through fresh water, sanitation, school facilities and a touch of hope.

  3. We had been working in Ethiopia for a week when a friend of ours invited us over to his house for a meal and a cup of buna, the Amharic word for coffee. In Ethiopia, coffee is an integral part of the culture, even more than in my hometown, Seattle. A traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony requires special dress, extreme attention to detail, and a reverence for tradition and ritual. Even though we weren’t given an official coffee ceremony, the amount of work that went into our pot of coffee was astounding.

  5. ABOUT DONKEY MOBILE LIBRARIES
The Donkey Mobile Library is the brainchild of Ato Yohannes Gebregeorgis and was designed to address the urgent need of supplying books to children in rural areas of Ethiopia. Yohannes discovered that donkeys were plentiful in these rural areas and that books were not. Donkey Mobile Libraries run a circuit from school to school and from village to village bringing books to eager children.
