This video was written and produced while traveling through Chile & Patagonia with my girlfriend. We spent 5 weeks exploring this amazing country, and this is how we chose to document it. Thanks so much for checking it out.

More Than A Race follows the 100-kilometre journey of some of the world’s best ultra runners in the 2014 Vibram Hong Kong 100, the city’s original solo ultra marathon. The race unfolds along Hong Kong's hidden trails, weaving around postcard images of towering skyscrapers, beyond the iconic skyline. The juxtaposition of concrete jungle against the natural beauty of the city's unique outdoors is captured in this short film and embodied in this quintessential Hong Kong race.
More Than A Race offers insight into the strategies, challenges, triumphs and disappointments of an ultra marathon runner. As the athletes explore the outskirts of the city, we witness their inner journeys and discover the Hong Kong 100 is more than a race.

In February 2014 I was invited along to tour Norway's North Western island chain known as the Lofoten Islands. I must admit I was a bit nervous about going into the Arctic Circle in their winter as I come from one of the flattest, driest, and hottest countries on the planet. Snow with all it's associated blizzards is totally foreign to me just as trekking through the Pilbara in our summer would be to visitors from Norway.
Much to our surprise we landed in Norway to one of their lowest snowfall seasons in years which gave me a small bit of comfort but left me wanting to come back to try again next winter. It wasn't even that cold with the temperatures maxing out at 6 degrees on some days. Now you have to remember we are in the Arctic Circle in winter so I guess thats Global Warming for you.
Man! what an amazing country. I can't begin to describe how grand this landscape is. This video just doesn't do it justice in my opinion. The fiord systems around these Islands is everything you would hope for. I feel I have been spoilt forever after visiting this place. It's like a Milford Sound in New Zealand around every corner.
Good friend Rod Thomas is organising a tour here next February so if you have any desire to see a bit of whats in this video look him up at rodthomas.com.au
Everything was shot on Canon products. C300, 5Dmk3, all Canon lenses. It was a bit lonely out there with only a few Canon still shooters wandering around looking lost wondering why everyone else was shooting Nikon. Not a problem for me though.
The soundtrack was licensed from The Music Bed. Next time I pick a soundtrack I best do a search of how many times it has been used on Vimeo. I was thinking to myself, "I have heard this before somewhere?"
Sorry to all of those people who are sick of this score. It's still a great track though.
The Most Beautiful Thing [TMBT] is an iconic ultra trail marathon set in the spectacular surroundings of Mount Kinabalu on the Malaysian island of Borneo. This short film piece aimed to not only capture the scenic trails but also the local culture, race history & ethos of the TMBT Ultra Marathon
Amberay is a haunting new musical composition from my favourite cellist (actually she is the only one I know) Jo Quail. This track will take pride and place on her forth coming album which is currently being engineered ready for our listening pleasure.
As soon as I heard this track I knew what I wanted to do with some recent footage I took on a 'family holiday'. Yes it was about family so shooting was not the first priority but as no one wanted to get up early with me due to the temperature outside I managed to sneak in the sequences in this clip.
The mood of the track dictated an equally dark edit so I went all Black and White much to my wife's disappointment. I hope she wasn't right when she said it should of been in colour. You can let me know.
Most of the slow timelapse clips are sped up C300 footage with a couple of proper timelapses with the 5Dmk3. The very last timelapse sequence was from good friend and brilliant Timelapser Colin Legg. Hes the man when it comes to this stuff and I stole it from him as I needed one more clip to finish it off and I had to use this one. I'm sure he wont mind me using it.
