As World War 1 rages in Europe, a group of brave Americans volunteer to join their French counterparts which became a group of aviators known as the Lafayette Esquadrille. One of the officers Capt. Alex Jamieson already famous with the reputation as daring, strong minded person a X aviator against Pancho Via and an avid whiskey drinker risks everything in the name of honor and conquest. The experiences and the losses he has to endure during his flying years turns Alex into a man of no fear, no fear of any obstacles and circumstances. Little does he know that a friendship developed during the war would turn his life into an even more adventurous escapade in the the name of justice. During the WW1 plane crash a good friend dies in his arms and asks that Alex watch over young son in the North Carolina mountains which he does until a U.S. government request.
Following WW1, Alex becomes a sought after undercover agent for the first US Federal Bureau of Narcotics. Opium was at the centre of one of the great controversies during the early 20th century in many parts of the world and Alex was assigned to Asia and Central America in which assassination was his priority with basically no government support. After years of secret missions and tired and frustrated working in a life of killing and deception for the Government Alex decides to fight the opium trade and smuggling his way. Alex now reports to no one and sets his own strategies and missions to fight this evil. His partner Lt. Danny Brown assists Alex until the last opium den shootout as they make it a priority to escape through the jungle and ghettos of Costa Rica to hijack a schooner and set sail to Charleston.
Jamieson's goal to retire in the 1930s is met with challenges as he deals with bigotry and violence against his adopted now adult nephew. When local authorities intermixed with the Klan and its hatred seek to destroy what is left of Alex's family his retirement turns into survival and revenge.
