1. I can't live on Lottery grants for ever, pals! This is my new attempt to get the world to chip in a few pounds and help me write the books that the world needs. Unfortunately for everyone, this is the new one, (written like Charles Dickens, one chapter a week), about Salford electing a Mayor in May. Don't laugh, this has never happened before. It's the biggest thing to hit Salford since local government reorganisation in 1974. Salford, you've been Borissed.

  2. May 2011 opened with sunny weather and the chance to go and celebrate the re-opening of the Irwell Valley Sculpture Trail at one of its most iconic settings, Clifton Country Park in Salford. Of course, we all dressed as Performance Poets and 'filled the air with poetry', (thanks to an idea from poet Terry Caffrey). Then we marched around the bits of sculpture, talking, reciting, and - even - making stuff up.
Now that's what I call Art.

  3. Ever wondered who tests all the drugs and medicines we consume every day? Someone has to do it!
Who'd have thought they'd be running trials down at that building at the end of the road, the one that looks suspiciously like Salford Lads Club?
Yes, the ambulance driver escorts you in, and the Doctor is waiting at her desk to sign you up and get your signature on those forms. Once you've agreed, there's no going back. You're stuck until the end of the week, if you want your cash payments, and the valuable bonus.
Well, what can possibly go wrong? Not much, apart from feeling ill; collapsing over the pool table; and, strangest of all, swapping identities with other people in the Clinic.
Bet you didn't see that coming.

  4. Way back in October 2010, when the days were short and the nights were cold, we went in to Salford Lads Club and pretended to be a film crew from 'Haunted Salford', a brand new TV chiller. The team volunteered to stay the night and see what apparations they could find.
Of course, the problem is not the ghosts that you meet coming out of the walls that are the worst thing: it's the old ghosts that we all carry around in our own heads.
Once they start coming out to play, no one is safe.
(This film took ages to edit, but Scott McGee has done a wonderful job. He had footage from four cameras to play with in the end, and making sense of what was there, plus only half a script to work with - was a real challenge. And finally, he was determined to try the 'Night' setting on his new camera, which is why some of it is green!)

  5. It's a tense time in Salford. Our local MP is standing down, and someone has to be chosen to be the candidate at the next Election. Who can it be? There are several interesting, local people putting themselves forward, but who can clinch it - the Baldy Man; the Lady; or The Kid?
And what's going to swing the vote? Each candidate has important questions to answer, and they all squirm under the relentless pressure from the audience.
In the end, the result is a surprise, and not everyone goes home happy. It's a tough business, this politics stuff.
