Rockstone & Bootheel includes works of 39 artists from the West Indies and the diaspora, focusing on artists from the Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. “The West Indies” refers to the group of islands in the Caribbean formerly under British control. More than half of the artists are showing work in the US for the first time. Featuring large-scale installation, new media and multidisciplinary works, digital projections, large format • photographs, assemblage sculptures, paintings, live performance, videos. Also featuring a public art project in one of Hartford’s West Indian markets. Hartford, Connecticut has the third largest West Indian population in the US, after New York and Miami.
