  1. This film was inspired by Akira: the classic anime and manga.

Shot 90% guerrilla. Equipment used includes canon xh-a1 along with the letus extreme for select shots, and the canon 5d mark 2. Software used: Adobe After Effects, Premiere and Photoshop.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out, no matter how minor the help was. This would have been impossible to make without any of you.

[ January 28, 2010 ] Seeda (the rapper of the opening song) hears of this video all the way in Japan and approves.

Rough translation of blog: "[title] Some dope unofficial shit my friend put me up on

This is really high quality, so I'll pretend I didn't see this (e.g. I'm not gonna sue him). Holla."...

  2. Shot on the Canon 5D MKII DSLR Camera over one night - New Years Eve 2009/2010 in Hong Kong, this video is a montage of the images from that night. Filmed near Central, over looking Hong Kong Harbour, it makes use of the 5DMKII's low light capabilities. I used a 50mm f1.4 Canon lens for some of it, while the rest was shot using a 24-105mm zoom. I also shot some RAW stills which I created a fast motion sequence out of for a bit of editing spice.

Lastly I also shot some time-lapse material, which again was intercut for creative reasons. It certainly helps to show how busy Hong Kong really is. These sequences were combined in Mpeg Streamclip before being edited in Final Cut Pro. I didn't Colour Grade any of the footage due to time, so all the images you see here are as they were shot.

I'm not a composer but because of the Copyright issues, I felt the only quick and cheap way to cut to a soundtrack was to Compose a track in Logic. The music you hear was thrown together by me from purchased loop discs. Enjoy.

  3. A visual tale of Singapore as it awakens to a new day. Shot with the Canon 5DMKII using Time Lapse Photography, this short film was shot entirely in Singapore during the month of April 2010. During the filming I used a Canon 24mm Shift & Tilt lens, a 100-400mm Zoom, a 24-105mm zoom, a 50mm f1.4 and a Lee 10 stop filter. These filters are glass and while fragile, deliver a really nice clean image with very little colour cast. For more information about this Short Film, please see my blog karlvonmoller.com/blog/2010/04/20/singapore-awakens-a-time-lapse-experiment/

For now, please enjoy "Singapore Awakens" and feel free to comment.

Big thanks: Jeff Emerson, Pukka Films (pukkafilms.com) & Pebble Beach Systems.

Having missed our return flights, Fergus Dingle (http://tiny.cc/dnf3z) of Pukka Films and I tried to slow time in order to make the most of a free afternoon in HK. Naturally I left my 7d running to document our efforts.
