  2. Secret Survivors is an interview-based theater project by NYC-based theater company, Ping Chong & Company, featuring 5 adult survivors of child sexual abuse telling their personal stories on stage.

Secret Survivors premiered in March 2011 at El Museo del Barrio in NYC. Ping Chong & Company has been awarded a grant from the Ms. Foundation for Women to develop an educational DVD and toolkit to accompany the live performance of Secret Survivors, as part of a new initiative to end child sexual abuse in the United States.

Secret Survivors is part of an ongoing series of community-specific oral history theater works known as the Undesirable Elements series. Each production is made in a specific community, with local participants. The script is based on interviews with the participants who then share their stories in the final production. Since 1992, Ping Chong & Company has created over 40 productions across the U.S. and abroad. Recent productions have explored issues of disability, Native American identity, Asian American identity, and the experiences of refugees in the U.S.

  5. Ping Chong & Company (pingchong.org) has launched a new arts-in-education program, called Secret Histories. The program provides a professional Undesirable Elements performance, followed by an in-school artistic residency. During the residency, teaching artists work with students to develop a personal narrative and present it in a theatrical performance. The work promotes academic skills and peer understanding through the arts.

Secret Histories is offered as multi-week in-school residency for English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Drama classrooms. It is also available as an after-school theater program, and as after-school and weekend workshops. Secret Histories teaching artists are professional theater artists and have worked in all 5 boroughs of New York City, around the country, and internationally.

For questions and inquiries contact: Jesca Prudencio, Education Coordinator, Jesca[at]pingchong.org.

The Undesirable Elements project is supported by major grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Open Society Foundation/Fund for the City of New York , Nathan Cummings Foundation, and Leading for the Future Initiative, a program of the Nonprofit Finance Fund, funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

MetLife Foundation is the National Sponsor of Undesirable Elements.
