1. "Hawaiian Birthday" This beautiful episode was shot on the amazing RED ONE, provided by Micheal Morlan, who also guest directed the episode.

  2. "Darren Pretends He's Gay" My favorite episode. I think it is funniest episode. Watch Ep 3 "Darren's Hot Call" then watch this ep. They play very well together.

  3. "NY Salt" This episode came together at the last moment. Adrienne Harrell was going to get knee surgery and would be recovering for a month. I had a script that Adrienne liked but it involved Darren, and Jean Paul was out of town. So I rewrote the script from scratch on Friday and we shoot it on Sunday.

Lauren Morris wrote the score and did a pretty good job on audiblizing the episodes themes.

The original script had nothing about NY. Jenna was not in it. On that Friday I had a flash of genius, I wrote in the NY angle unifying all 3 characters. I spent half of Saturday looking for that pink I (heart) NY t-shirt. Little did I know how heavily that logo is protected.

When I release Call Center as a DVD, this episode will not be on it because I don't want the state of New York to sue me.

  4. "Jo Ann" Some people told me not to waste my time making this episode, but I fought for it. Jo Ann is a major character. Her stories are very important to me.

Adrienne Harrell is a wonderful actress. She was the only actress we auditioned who could have played Jo Ann. And Adrienne was so dedicated. She didn't mind that in some of the episodes her character was silent. She understood that Jo Ann hated everyone and that she wouldn't want to speak. That's a very small ego.

"Jo Ann" gives us the backstory behind the bitter old lady. Stylistically, it's a depature from the series because it's so VO heavy, but I don't mind. Jo Ann is different and the VO is the easiest way to say a lot of information fast.

3 minutes for me is the perfect length.

  5. "Valentine's Day" This was a fun episode for me because it was purely about the problem. It's a typical day at the call center.

Like the day for the characters, shooting presented its own hurdles. We shot 15 pages in 12 hrs. That's three episodes: "I was here first," "Jo Ann," and "Valentine's Day" all in one day.

This wouldn't have happened without the contributions of Jeff Buras, the director of photography. This is the only day he worked on Call Center, but man he helped. He was so quick.
