Music composition and technology design: Kevin Dobbe
This is the complete 2nd movement from Color and Light. The work features two acoustic MIDI pianos that project the mapping of each key to various surfaces of the concert hall via software created by the composer entitled "Symphonic Vision". The lights cues are also controlled by a keyboard player reading music in order to exactly synchronize all light, camera input, and projector cues under the direction of the conductor.
Performed March 16, 2013 by the Rochester Orchestra and Chorale under the direction of Jere Lantz.
Composition, software creation, visual design and creation by Kevin Dobbe
This is a 4:30" excerpt of the second movement from the "Color and Light" composition by Kevin Dobbe. The project included the use of "Symphonic Vision" (a software program written by the composer that controls various media via a MIDI keyboard).
This performance is of the Rochester Orchestra and Choral under the direction of Jere Lantz.
This movement featured two acoustic MIDI keyboards where each note was mapped to a particular color representation, via "Symphonic Vision" software and was projected on various surfaces of the performance hall. All light devices and cues were also under the direct control of another keyboardist "playing" the light cues and controlling the video camera inputs and outputs via notes of the keyboard. A music score was provided to the keyboardist (chromalume). Thus, all visual media is "performed by an orchestra musician under the direction of the conductor in order to synchronize all visual elements with the music composition.
