"Girl in the Mirror" is about surfaces, layers, visibility, feminine identity and communication gaps (productive, reproductive, and unproductive).

This started as a performance art piece for a college course I was taking at Vassar. I got such enthusiastic responses that I filmed myself (as well as my mom and my sister acting out similar movements,) and edited it all together to produce this film. It was screened at the Laemmle in Santa Monica as part of the LA's NEXT Filmmakers' Festival in 2010.

ANd...a description taken directly from that college course assignment:
'The piece raises questions of temporality and genealogy as well as the boundaries between interiority and exteriority. The simple movements of camera, mirror, screen and actor create a sort of dreamlike dance that is hopefully a bit disorienting.'

In an interview for April of 2000, female performance artist Orlan comments, “I have never done a piece (drawing, photograph, video, or performance) without considering it as a body looking for other bodies in order to exist.” For me this statement articulates the struggle we all undergo to find a place of honest, productive communication with one another, because it is through our attempts to communicate that we become aware of our own existence and existence’s continuous changeability-- performances are the true ontology of our Being.
