The Red Hook Crit first hit the cobbles of Red Hook in 2008. With less than 20 competitors. Now with almost 300 racers fighting for position to qualify, RHC has grown immensely. Crowds in the thousands come to Red Hook Brooklyn to cheer on friends, family or just simply to spectate.
This year RHC has added a women's field to the program to add to the mens race and the mens and women's running race. With a full schedule in 2014, there was only one challenge in everyones way. The weather!
With 30 plus women in the starting line, everyone was excited for the first installment of the RHC women's field. Ash Duban was selected by Trimble Racing as the favorite. She did not disappoint by qualifying first to meet that pressure. On the mens side it was Neil Bezdek who was picked the pre-race favorite to come back and win the race again. Watch as an exciting race filled evening unfolded in both crits.
Thanks to the support of I love NY more than you, Bikestock, Bicycle Film Festival and Trimble Racing.
The awesome crew who braved the weather all day.

The best things in life are often simple. Riding a bike for example. Grabbing your wheels at the end of a day's work and heading out for a quick rip, the good old fashioned way. There are times to push your limits but more importantly there are times where all you need is that simple joy of just getting out there.
We had the pleasure of filming this with Jon from Chickens Frame Emporium. As well as making beautiful steel frames from his shipping container workshop, his own bike tells a hundred stories. The worn grips and ripped saddle show that this bike has seen more action than most. Using the first frame he ever made, it's still going strong. He's too busy making everyone else's dream bike to tend to his own but it still takes him on those all important blasts to clear his mind and focus on his next frame building project.
Jon Chickens is also featured in 'Made In England - The artisans behind the hand-built bicycle'. A highly recommended read - pushprojects.net/
Keep on Pushin' represents what skateboarding means to me, it is my way of thanking skateboarding for all that it has given me.
Keep On Pushin' is part of REDirect, a celebration of skateboard filmmaking between red.com and theberrics.com. Showcasing twelve of the most renowned skateboarding filmmakers in the world, each filmmaker had 2 months to shoot and edit a short film about skateboarding. The contestants were kitted with all components needed to shoot on RED.
Thank you Berrics and RED for the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing project.

A place to learn how to make bikes. You keep the skills, your first bike goes to someone who really needs it.
The Bicycle Academy is a new enterprise providing people with the skills and facilities to design and make their own bikes.
Frame building will be taught by the legendary Brian Curtis as evening classes or short weekday courses. As part of the learning process each student will make a frame designed specifically for use in Africa. Once graduated students will be able to use The Bicycle Academy workshop to hone their skills and build their own frames.
To get the project up and running we’re going to crowd fund The Bicycle Academy using peoplefund and that’s why we need your help. We’ve got the workshop, but haven’t got anything to fill it with - We need to buy brazing stations, a lathe, a pillar drill, jigs and a full complement of bike tools.
Please support us by making a pledge during our 6 week crowd funding campaign at peoplefund.it/the-bicycle-academy from the 1st of November.
