Cardiac muscle cells are called Cardiomyocytes. These cells contain specialized organelles such as myofibrils, mitochondria, the sarcoplasmic reticulum for storage and release of calcium and the sarcolemma which is a membrane that encloses each muscle cell.
Cardiomyocytes are very flexible as they shorten and lengthen to perform the mechanical function of a beating heart. They are connected by cellular bridges which allow the heart muscle to act as a single coordinated unit.
Endometriosis is a disorder in which tissue that normally lines the uterus migrates and grows outside the uterus. The tissue may be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, uterine wall, intestines and the lining of the pelvis.
While Endometriosis requires a medical diagnosis, the most common symptoms are pain and menstrual irregularities. There are more the 200,000 Endometriosis cases in the US every year.
Treatments vary depending on the severity of the condition – ranging from self-care remedies like using a heating pad for mild cases to using hormone therapy or birth control to affect and regulate organ activity in moderate cases. In more extreme cases, surgical procedures to ablate, repair or remove tissue are available.
