    In part 1 of this figure drawing tutorial series we begin the color figure sketch with the drawing. In the drawing we establish gesture and action of the pose, then construct the figure in preparation for the painting process.

    Once the drawing step is complete, we begin the color and painting process by blocking in the shadow. Using a mixture of Ultramarine blue and Burnt umber we quickly create variations of cool and warm grays that are perfect for the shadow block in.

    4. Rounds #8 (or any mid size round)

    [4] PAPER
    *Heavyweight, at least 120 lb, cold press

    1. 9"x12" paper block (Arches or Fluid brand)
    2. Moleskine watercolor sketchbook (small or medium)

    [5] EXTRAS

    1.prismacolor pencils (red or orange)
    2. graphite pencils (mechanical, HB)
    3. mars erasers, kneaded eraser
    4. spray bottle
    5. bath towel (or any thick cotton towel, cut into smaller pieces)
    6. water container (I recommend aluminum or plastic)
    7. masking tape
