A terrific tune I heard live at a Bill Evans concert, and as always, I meant to play a different tune (How deep is the ocean) but forgot but hey: what'ya want for nothing?
Guitar is the 714 with a mic and some direct. Some fingerpicking and some picking, no nose picking (visible). I hadn't recorded for many moons due to yet another stupid injury. I managed to somehow attack myself with a 40 lb crowbar, destroying a tendon in my left arm in the process, also making my left-hand fingers useless. Four months of PT down the line and things are looking improved a bit so thought I'd give this a shot.
It's been so long since I last did this that none of my usual stuff is working (recorder, video) so I cobbled together a few things I would never think of using and yeah, this is what we get.
2nd take on a Corea tune I liked but also hadn't played. This one I just did as acoustic with an H4n recorder and a video record that I forgot to press record on the first time (that's par for me).
On the recording I mention that it's by Gary Burton (what do I know?) but it's by Chick Corea. I kept it simple for once. A pass through the melody, no overdubs, but will no doubt manage to re-record it just to make it somehow worse.
First take on a Corea tune I liked but hadn't played till this week. When I was ~16 playing in Detroit and doing a lot of sessions this was just becoming one of the hot session tunes but I was more into gigs by that time so I think I never got a chance to play it.
So at about 3 minutes 45 seconds into this thing, the battery on my video gave out and since I wanted the audio track up , I slyly switch to some wild animal footage taken minutes ago in my house which is completely terrible but "any port in a storm".
The recording is mostly mic'd with a Rode NT1 with a little from the pickup. The backing track was just a remix I did on some "iReal B" track. Credits to the author.
