1. Big shoals of herring were gathering around in northern Norway in November 2015. Following them were Orcas and Humpback whales, who are hunting together for herring with their individual "special techniques".
Orcas are performing "killer loops" or "carousel feeding" in which they swim fast into the shoal of herring, turn around their own axis and beat the fish with their tail. The paralyzed fish then float in the water and are easy to pick up by the Killer whales or birds. The Humpback whales try to dive under the herring and taking a huge gulp while ascending.

Footage acquired around Vengsoya Island / Norway with drones and handheld gimbal.

  4. Each year between February and April small nurseries of baby sea lions play in the shallow surf close to the beach. They are very young, just learning how to swim. Orcas have been observed hunting around the cape of Punta Norte / Peninsula Valdez in Argentina since 1976. Two male orcas taught the whole population how to successfully catch sea lion pups off the beach. A technique that is now transferred from generation to generation. Nowadays up to 13 resident orcas showcase their sophisticated hunting skills.

We were able to capture this spectacular behavior also from the air.

  5. In the magically blue ocean around the Azores large pods of dolphins gather to feed. When they locate a shoal of fish they circle them until they form a ball, which is called a bait-ball. Often together with tuna fish and cagarros ( cory´s shearwater birds) they go for the fish until no one is left.

Common dolphin and spotted dolphin scenes including bow riding, hunting, traveling in big groups and bait ball situations.
