Un film de François LEROY - "La Chaine Normande"
Every year, in September, around 200 to 300,000 people gather in Salta, North of Argentina, to celebrate the Virgin of Miracle. Some of the pelegrins are walking from the most remote places in the Province of Salta, especially the miners from the Puna (Argentinian Altiplano) who work in the mines located in the salt lakes of Hombre Muerto and Centenario. The miners walk 300 km in 6 days to reach the capital, crossing the high planes of the Argentinian Puna. They transport the holy images of the Virgin through deserts and deep valleys although tough conditions (wind and cold). The french author, Christophe Thillier, walked along with the miners, from these remote areas to Salta city to witness this pilgrimage and share the miners's experience. Using analogic photography, black & white films and panoramic format camera (XPAN, Hasselblad), the author tries to restitute as much as possible the smallness of Man within the large scale landscapes of the Andes. Black and white photography is voluntary the author's choice who also wanted to translate the feeling of total dispossess and humility which will lead the pilgrim to the end of his spiritual path.
