In Complicated Duality, Sambaxé Dance Company step away from their traditional Brazilian dance performance style and are exploring fusing Contemporary and Afro Brazilian styles to navigate both the juxtaposition and intersection between cultural traditions and technology, specifically the battle/disconnect that can occur between tradition, culture, being present, and the technological world, all in response to the current controversial climate of the rapid gentrification of the mission neighborhood.

Saturday, March 29 2014 at 8pm SOLD OUT
ODC presents the 64th cycle of the Pilot Program entitled Sound Bodies: New Dance & Live Music featuring choreography by Gerald Casel, Julie Binkley, Carmen Roman, Alexandra Kamerling, Alyce Finwall, and Raffaella Falchi.
Sound Bodies: New Dance & Live Music brings an exciting new twist to the Pilot Program. Each choreographer will present a brand new dance that has been created in close collaboration with composers and musicians, resulting in a performance with a diverse range of live music and movement, and a synthesis of ethnic and contemporary styles. Composers include Les Stuck, Tim Russell, Alfie Macias, Jason Hoopes with Carson Whitley, Lara Cushing, and Felipe Pumarada with Pedro Rosales.
Continuing its long tradition of bringing Bay Area audiences innovative and provocative new work, Pilot has been a fixture in the Bay Area dance scene since 1990. Through a rigorous 11-week session, six selected artists from over 60 applicants are given mentorship in choreography, as well as vital aspects of self-production in a communal atmosphere. Pilot has long been recognized as an artistic incubator for up and coming choreographic talent in the Bay Area.
Join us for a post performance reception on Friday, March 28.
Q&A will follow the closing performance on Saturday, March 29th.
