Not an advertisement for Geico. Appropriation of the word “Geico” imparts the notion of the concept in your mind of the awareness that you have seen actual advertisements for an insurance company of that name. However, this is not that advertisement. It is not an advertisement at all! This is an art piece about the concept of advertising. The execution of the idea is too far removed from a conventional advertisement, that it clearly is not exploitive in the intention to motivate you to buy insurance. However, it creates a paradox by using an actual business as a referent. The same awareness of commodification is tantamount to it actually being an advertisement!
