Music Videos

  1. A music video I directed for one of my favorite bands, The Mountain Goats. We shot this in an apartment I had in New York in the middle of a heat wave, summer of 2006. My AC broke on the first day of shooting.

This is how we did it: I diagrammed out 8 layers of video on a timeline. We shot the first layer (of John's face on the tv screen sitting on the floor) then took that tape and played it back on my TV, and shot the second layer. Then we took that tape and played it back, and shot the third. Basically we built it layer by layer, live, and by the end of the two day shoot we had our finished video.

Sharp eyes will notice a few wonky match-dissolves. We discovered that once we were 8 layers deep (that is, shooting off a tv screen off a tv screen off a tv screen 8 times) the deepest layer was too muddy to see what was going on. So we used only 7 layers at the start, and transitioned to layer 8 when we needed it.

  3. Music video for the indie-instrumental mexican band Austin TV and the second single of the album Fontana Bella called SHIVA. Project created in collaboration with animator Diego Huacuja in a record time of 1 month to do all the art and animation.
The story is based in an original idea from the band and tells one of many stories of this old man, named Mario Lupo and his xoloscuincle dog, Kerdoc. They accidentally fall in a hidden magic forest which actually is the devil's cave. Hope you like the animation, the art and of course, the music!

  4. Unofficial-non commercial video for plyPhon, a song from the latest Autechre release, Quaristice.

Every visual element is connected to a sound event; the whole video is intended to be like a sort of virtual score that develops itself in a continued run, according to the music.

  5. Our very first music video - actually our very first of anything really.

Each frame of us playing was printed, cut out, placed into a small set and photographed frame by frame.

The music video was made by us (the band members) using only what we had available: A DV video camera, a colour printer, paper, scissors and a digital stills camera.
