Each year my Video Art students are required to produce final projects that engage the public in some way. The students typically have only 2-3 weeks to come up with an idea and then produce their video. Ideally everyone agrees on a theme (or a general set of parameters) for the work. This year the students had an interest in projection mapping. Projection mapping is the use of video projectors to display an image onto a 3-dimensional surface in order for the video to accentuate the dimensionality of a physical space. The class worked with two DeKalb venues: The House Cafe and Eduardo's. The show was held on December 2, 2014 and was very well attended. This video is a documentation of the student work. A sincere word of thanks to the students and everyone that made this event possible.
This piece was my part of the Project Lighthouse Art Show me and my Advanced Video class hosted Dec 2nd in DeKalb. (It's also my final for the class)
The dragons are originals I painted in photoshop and had initially been only one dragon. After a series of changes, the one had become 3 dragons. Now in this current version here, the three dragons enter in and out of frame in a trade off pattern until joining all together in the main dance. After leaving all together, they return to create a triangle and breathe fire into the center of their unit, creating a trifecta of colorful neon fire. These dragons aren't fighting, they're creating their own art.
This was our final project in advanced video. I really enjoyed this one a lot. I originally was gonna have it grow out of a vase, but after a lot of messing around it didn't work the way i had planed. So i scraped that idea and just had the flower reveal it self. Which i think turned out great. I had a lot of fun trying out different flowers until i got what i wanted. I really enjoyed making the flowers change color. I hope to do another project like this in the future. Im also gonna upload a video from the show of my project.
