1. Another Group 312 Films short. I like the story for this one a lot. But, I have to admit that I am not sure if this is the best telling. I also think this one may visually work better with the techniques that I used for "Infusion". So, I at least intend to go back and give that a try.

One thing I will say was most frustrating was that this month's theme was "Oh-La-La" There was a whole lot of time spent trying to just come up with an idea for this one. Really, "Oh-La-La"? How did that one win the vote? Anyway, the connection to the theme is that this story was very loosely inspired by the Serge Gainsbourg song "L'Hotel Particulier". And, I suppose that you really can't get more "Oh-la-la" than Serge's Melody Nelson album.

  2. My latest Group 312 Films video. This is actually based on a real game that I invented with a friend of mine back when there were cafes that were open 24 hours. The idea was to find a way of combine all of the games that we had available to us. The rules actually made for a ridiculously exhausting experience. Overall, really happy with the writing on this one. I wish the visuals were a bit more interesting, but I do think that they get the job done. The theme is the same as the title.

  3. This is another of my conceptual experiments. The basic idea was to create 3 visual "haiku" with each one consisting of three shots each. Each individual shot would be structured at 25 seconds : 35 seconds :25 seconds - in an attempt to mirror the ratio of verbal haiku of 5 syllables : 7 syllables : 5 syllables. Each short would then be scored with a minimalistic piece of music that reflected to mood of the piece. The central idea was to try to emulate the evocative and contemplative feeling of a haiku poem.

Overall, I think this was a success, but more in terms of the experimental nature. So, this is an idea that I really liked a lot and want to return to again. For it to really work though, it will take a considerably greater amount of work to really strike that balance of complexity and economy that makes verbal haiku so evocative

  5. The latest Group 312 Film. I initially had a completely different (and I still think very good) idea for this theme. But the script for that one proved a bit too complicated to sort out within the time limit. So, this was my backup plan. For a fallback, I think it's pretty successful. Mostly, I like the song. It was originally composed for someone else's film, but he only used a short snippet and I really wanted something that had the whole piece. But, I think the film works as a whole and will manage to buy me some time to get the original idea finished. So, win-win this time around

This is where I keep the short films that I make as part of the Group 312 Films collective. Each film is made within one month based on a theme elected by the group at the beginning of the month. It's been a good way to keep myself productive and prevent me from over thinking projects. It's also a bit nice to have a guaranteed audience.
