Bob describes “a love that operates more like a sign language than being spoken outright.” Are you fluent in the sign language of love? Do the things you do show the love that you have been shown by God in Christ Jesus? Take time this week to assess your actions, also affirm someone, maybe a family member, a friend, or a co-worker who has a sign language of love.
In the chapter Sniper Fire, Bob talks about how everyone has this sneaking suspicion that they are a little bit weird, a little bit atypical. What do you think the quirks God gave you? What are those unique gifts that God has given you, that reflect Him as you have been created in His image? And how can you Encourage someone’s unique ways that they too reflect the Image of God.
Bob says, “Being ‘engaged’ isn’t just an event that happens when a guy gets on one knee...Engagment is a way of doing life, a way of living and loving.” How engaged are you today? As beloved of Jesus, he continues to lavish his love upon us, and yet sometimes we don’t feel that love. How and where do you feel it most? Is your level of “engagement” based on your feelings alone? If so how can you re-orient your life as a life of ‘engagement’? Maybe to help this week and encourage us in our engagement, we could memorize 1 John 1:1-3.
There are countless stories in Scripture that point to the theme of finding things and losing things, some found in Luke 15. It is in both the finding and losing that God reveals himself to us. Have you ever had a “fantastically spectacular failure” like Bob? In that ‘losing’ did you find God? Are you benefiting from a failure right now or from the recent past? This week, fail on purpose. Not something foolish, but do something out of the ordinary that you don’t know if you’re good at. Write a poem and share it with someone. Have an awesome family dance party in your living room and have everyone go crazy. Take a step out of your comfort zone and have fun!
