This is the opening seminar of the Paris ERC Berkeley Workshop. David discusses how the visual system balances the need to optimize sensitivity to image changes (prediction) with the desire to represent the temporal continuity of objects—the likelihood that objects perceived at this moment tend to exist in subsequent moments.

This seminar is followed by an 8 day experimental workshop.

Workshop in Paris October 6 to October 15. Lab of David Whitney visits LPP Position group in Paris for experiments on Coding of Location. Videos of introductory talk by David Whitney and final presentations on October 15th. These videos are only intended to remind those who were there of what happened, the sound and images are not very clear. Sorry to those who see these presentations here for the first time.

Also, two videos were not recorded -- Anna Kosovicheva's presentation of the effects of the vertical meridian, and Gerrit Maus's presentation of suppression of displacements during blinks. Two other recordings were cut short for technical reasons (Santani Teng and Matteo Lisi's talks). Apologies.
