  3. Thomas Goetz ’90 is back on campus to speak to the Class of 2018 in a “Conversation with Clayton” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, in the Gomes Chapel.

    Goetz’s best-selling book, The Remedy: Robert Koch, Arthur Conan Doyle and the Quest to Cure Tuberculosis, was the Common Read for the first-year class.

    He talks with President Clayton Spencer, who asks him, among other questions, about his Bates experience, his book, and if he sees parallels in today’s scientific mysteries and questions, whether in the Ebola outbreak or climate change, and what, if anything, in today’s society is impeding innovation and discovery.
