My name is Jordana Séguin, I'm 19 years old. I grew up in smalltown Squamish BC, where high fashion was never a part of my daily life, but it was always my calling. The thing about me is that I have always known exactly what career path was right for me, and through years of joyfully playing with fabric and scissors, I developped the skills necessary to start pursuing my dream of becoming a dress designer. At the age of 12, working on my new mannequin, I created my first gown, and my beautiful cousin wore it to prom, where a hook-and-eye broke off. Lessons like these and countless hours of dressmaking for fun have led me to where I am today, working hard on my first runway show. This season I am showing a collection inspired by the time I spent livng in Montréal last year, immediately after I graduated from highschool.
I took my love of dress design and european details, mixed it with streetstyle inspiration, and tailored this collection for young women who like their clothes to be feminine, colourful, and cool.
In the future, I would like to continue designing apparel like I am showing this season, but my main focus will always be on creating beautiful gowns, to deliver the fit and feel appropriate for big moments and lasting memories for the women who wear them. I hope to travel the world learning beading, weaving, Haute Couture pattern making, dying, and whatever else the world has to offer me. My journey begins here, at Vancouver Fashion Week. Next I will be attending Toronto Film School for Fashion Design to solidify my business plan. I hope to spend these next few years collaborating with music artists and film makers, from the glass city of Vancouver to the streets of Montréal, on expressing those passionate ideas, the ones that have the power to move other people.
Until the early twentieth century, the predominant way people saw new clothes, especially the latest from Paris, was on dolls, beginning as far back as 1391, when Charles VI of France sent Queen Anne of England a “fashion doll” wearing the latest royal court dress! On Thursday April 24th 2014 you will experience the "Ccuoco Royal Court" of "Fashion Dolls".
