Reuben Paterson is known for his paintings featuring glitter and diamond dust. He began working with sculpture three years ago and has recently created his largest to date - a life-size, gold-glittered tree in New Plymouth's Pukekura Park. The former teacher talks to Kathryn Ryan about giving glitter a makeover and branching out into drawing.

Welcome to Reuben Paterson's Vimeo!
Through the influence of his Māori and Scottish ancestry combines traditional pattern and design with non-traditional media, reinvigorating and extending Māori expression. His use of traditional motif produces works that link to memories of our recent and ancient pasts; memories that are visceral, tangible and intangible. More recently Paterson has extended his range subjects to include animals and bird life and his extended his practice to include sculpture; similarly created in his signature glitter style.
