OUR CITY FILM

  1. This is Brussels, the capital of Europe, a city of concrete cages wrapped in glass, planned by businessmen and politicians, set in motion by construction workers, and animated by office people. But there, in the narrow spaces just beyond the reach of bureaucracy, lies the Brussels that still breathes. You can hear its multicultural heart beating and see the traces of all the other cities, the ones each person carries within him/herself. All of us together add up to create the complex body and dissonant identity of Our City.

Images shot by Guillaume Vandenberghe and Matthieu Pommes did the sound. The men in the orange overalls are Khalid Mezroue, Luis Vergara and Yann Betant.

  4. In 2010 we organized two public moments at the cultural centre Beursschouwburg in Brussels, to explore the themes and discuss about the themes we planned to address. This is an edit by Klaas Boelen, using some of the very early images we had been shooting.

The "saga" behind the film OUR CITY: a five-year long adventure, starting with a musical comedy/documentary called "Au boulot: het is tijd om te dromen!", then growing on to "situationist" interventions in the city (see Rue de La Loi), research groups (see Cosmopolis), public sessions in cultural centres (see Beurs) and a blog (see http://auboulot1.wordpress.com).

We collect here some of the milestones of this long creative process.
