  3. Is church a place where we can be vulnerable and open? When I was asked to speak to a gathering of youth pastors, I felt pulled back instantly to some of the traumas of high school. Some of them had a lot to do with my sexuality, and some had little to do at all. I've been talking for some time now about the need for a church in which we can be vulnerable and open, complicated and whole. Here was an opportunity to take, in my own life, a big first step. No more secrets, no more shame. Thanks to Tony Jones for inviting me to give this talk at the 2014 Progressive Youth Ministry conference in Chicago.
