1. A Day with Dad at Darrington is a two-day event. On Day 1, we bring in just the Dads, for a time of fellowship with outside pastors and laymen, who take the inmate father through learning modules that will prepare them for being with their children on Day 2. The fathers need time to prepare for the day with their children because they have, for the most part, never spent quality time together. The fathers are taught how to begin building a relationship with their children, how to bless their children, how to praise their children. And we cover what NOT to say to the children. On Day 2, we bring the children into the prison to be with their fathers, to play games, to have quiet time, to bless their children. Here's what Day with Dad At Darrington, November 2012, was like.

  2. This is a 17 minute 45 second version of the longer "A New Hope" documentary which details the development of the "Angola Bible College" at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, Angola, LA. The school was started in 1996 and brought new levels of moral rehabilitation to what was once called, "America's Bloodiest Prison." Using much of the "Angola model," the Heart of Texas Foundation, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Southwestern Theological Seminary, began a voluntary, privately funded Bible College at Darrington Penitentiary. Other states are now taking steps to introduce this unprecedented approach to moral rehabilitation and penal reform. The Heart of Texas Foundation has played a pivotal role in the development of the Darrington Seminary Bible College, heartoftexasfoundation.org.

  3. Malachi Dads is a "men's movement" for fathers-in-prison who want to re-claim and heal broken relationships with their children. It began in the infamous Angola penitentiary in Louisiana, with the help of the international children's ministry, AWANA. It was started, named, and developed by prisoners who are fathers. We in Texas have adopted the Angola-AWANA model for Malachi Dads, and bring it into our Texas prison culture through the cooperative efforts of the Darrington penitentiary and the Darrington Seminary graduates, who will be helped to start Malachi Dads chapters in every prison in Texas. Take a look at what Malachi Dads is at Angola. The first Texas Malachi Dads chapter was begun in June, 2014 at Texas' largest men's maximum-security penitentiary, Coffield, near Palestine. Other chapter of Malachi Dads will be opened systematically, in conjunction with TDCJ and The Heart of Texas Foundation.

  4. Here are two Darrington Seminary students, Terry Solley and John Montana, in their first music video. The video was produced by the Video Team in Darrington Seminary, located within the Darrington penitentiary in Rosharon, Texas. The Seminary is fully funded by private donations from The Heart of Texas Foundation supporters. The scholarship is provided by the fully accredited faculty from Southwestern Theological Seminary from Forth Worth, and their Houston Campus staff. The Seminary awards a 4-year degree in Biblical Studies, and is open to any man in a Texas state prison or penitentiary who meets the entrance requirements set by TDCJ and Southwestern, regardless of his race, color, or religious creed.

The song, "There for You," was written by Terry Solley. John Montana sings and plays on the Fender Acoustic guitar, donated by The Heart of Texas Foundation and a private donor. It speaks to the many children of inmate men and women; children who are also victims of the crimes committed by their parents. Too late, the parents discover that their crime has had unintended victims: their own children. Fathers like Terry Solley are reaching out to their children in new ways, after experiencing the transformative power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and experiencing spiritual transformation, which leads to moral rehabilitation. Fathers and mothers who are so transformed immediately begin reaching out to their children.

  5. Our friends at Forgiven Ministry, founded by Scottie Barnes out of North Carolina (forgiven ministry.org) and The Heart of Texas Foundation volunteers and supporters, have come together numerous times for the sake of the children of incarcerated fathers. This is a short video documentary of the recent "One Day with God Camp" at Darrington penitentiary in Rosharon, Texas, where our Southwestern Seminary at Darrington is located. Many of the imprisoned dads that you see in this video are Darrington Seminary students! Enjoy this recent day with dad at Darrington, as you watch a "One Day with God Camp" for children.
